The Concept Wedding Film

Last week I was fortunate enough to attend the Wedding and Event Videographers Association (WEVA) conference, where I met some of the best wedding filmmakers in the world. Two of those filmmakers, David Robin and Kevin Shahinian, really caught my eye for their “Concept Films.” Concept films are scripted productions that can feature the Bride and Groom, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah child, or the event’s honoree(s). The production can be a spoof of a TV show, movie, documentary, mockumentary, satire, roast, biography, family history, love story, or all of the above. They are then premiered at the event, or rehearsal dinner on a movie sized screen.

Concept films can not only remind the couple of why they love each other, but also share that emotion with the entire wedding party.

Kevin Shahinian of Pacific Pictures shared his film, “Snow,” with us during the conference and I feel that it truly represents the emotional impact that a concept film can have.

Excerpt from Kevin:

Can a love story be told as a thriller? Megan & Narbeh’s true romance seemed to inspire the myth, conventions, and iconography of the great international suspense films, set in the iconic Uppsala winter of their hometown. Knowing only that Narbeh was a member of the Swedish Air Force, and that he used to sneak off the base at times just to see Megan, we took a little dramatic license in this one-of-a-kind love story-thriller hybrid, and hope to have celebrated the places that remind these two what made their very first moments together unforgettable.

While Kevin focuses primarily on wedding stories, David Robin can create that same level of emotion through photo montages. He projected the following piece at WEVA and everyone was blown away.

Philip Bloom’s latest film,”Dublin’s People,” provides an incredible look at the culture and people of Dublin, while showing off the latest DSLR, the 7D, from Canon. His use of cultural elements such as the band at the end, really made me flashback to my time there. Check out his film below and visit his site here. You will not be disappointed with any of Philip’s work and his blog is extremely informative!

“Filmed at the end of the 2 day F-Stop Academy Cinematography workshop in Dublin when we were in wind down mode. Shot on a pre-production Canon 7d.
